Rhys Lee
Rhys Lee (1975) lives and works in Melbourne. Lee’s works are infused with the animated graphic presence of the cartoon, bordering on grotesque fantasy and the macabre. Each stroke is fast, nervous and spontaneous, qualities that reflect the urgency and exuberance so particular to graffiti, a medium he explored intensely during the 1990s.
Rhys Lee is a visual artist living and working in Aireys Inlet, Victoria, known for melding ethereal forms with a playful touch of street art — fusing representation and abstraction — through lively oil and acrylic colour palettes. In the wake of several upcoming intercontinental exhibitions — showing in galleries across Athens, London, Melbourne and Brussels.

The uniqueness of Rhys Lee’s brushstroke is striking: Intense oil colors compose the painting with wild energy. One instantly thinks of the expressionist style. And while, as with all works, the temptation is great to perceive a touch of Picasso’s genius in one or the impetuosity of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner in another, in the end, Rhys Lee delivers the knockout blow.
