Monde Sauvage
–
« Monde Sauvage » is the name of a high-end decoration shop in Paris, it’s also a graffiti on a shop’s front window in the city’s suburbs. Olivier Kosta-Théfaine reinterprets and re-activates certain elements seen on his last holidays, or trips between Paris and the suburb: architectural elements seen in Eindhoven or Berlin, wood works and graffiti done with a lighter in Turin, landscapes of his teenage years in Sartrouville or just the memory of a treasure quest on a small French island… Each artwork presented in this exhibition comes from photographic documents and relates to memories, words or feelings linked to a particular place he’s visited. Monde Sauvage is born out of an observation and a deep love of the city: motley composition of lame elements, as well as unconsidered, futile and often neglected mediums. Olivier Kosta-Théfaine offers, with Monde Sauvage, an intimate and ‘street-rough’ exhibition with a twist of poetry. “My first source of inspiration is the city. (…) I’ve rapidly learnt to observe my environment, my suburbs and interpret it in a personal way. (…) It’s those interpreted versions that compose the foundation of the work I show in galleries today…”
